Things that keeps you fresh on long haul flights:
- Wear loose and comfortable clothing.
- Avoid diuretics like coffee, soft drinks and alcohol.
- Hydrate well the night before the flight, preferably with electrolyte drinks.
- Take very light and healthy meals or skip the meal to combat jet lag, but this depends on your own personal discipline.
- East-bound flights make you most jet lagged because you ‘lose’ time.
- Choose music over a movie to doze off.
- Book your flight such that you land around your sleeping time.
- Adjust your watch to local time at your destination as soon you board the flight.
- Closer to travel, adjust your sleep time according to the time zone of your destination.
- It is good idea to pack supplies like books, magazines, a computer, a personal music player and a sleep mask to cover eyes while sleeping. Pillows, blankets and other comfort items can also make the flights more enjoyable, as can familiar snacks.
- Get up to stretch periodically. If possible, get an isle seat or exit row so you can get up and walk around whenever possible.
